INDIA : Leh-Ladakh by Vandana Bajikar (vandana2923) Gold Star Critiquer/Gold Star Workshop Editor/Gold Note Writer [C: 2465 W: 125 N: 5702] (22207) :: 2006-06-01 - 2006-06-09 :: 5406 Views

From the crest of the Great Himalaya to that of Karakoram, lies Ladakh. Full of valleys, mountains, glaciers, and human habitation settled at various altitude from 2700 meters to 4500 meters. Along with Tibet Buddhism started in Leh-Ladakh. Perched on remote high peaks, these monasteries seem to rise from the formidable surrounding terrain. Buddhism hardly needs to be studied in Ladakh. The impact of the religion on the hardworking and deeply religious mountain folk is obvious from their simple yet profound way of living.... (full story) (7 photos)

INDIA: Konkan - land of Parshuram by Vandana Bajikar (vandana2923) Gold Star Critiquer/Gold Star Workshop Editor/Gold Note Writer [C: 2465 W: 125 N: 5702] (22207) :: 2006-05-19 - 2006-05-24 :: 4852 Views

Konkan is the West Coast part of the India, Arabian ocean. The land of Lord Parshuram. The land is full with coconut, cashew nut, jackfruit, mango and palm trees. The soil is brick red, and roads are very narrow. The reach to the ocean is mostly through the fisherman's house, as they their houses are almost at the seashore, and they have their fishing boats near by. This area is almost closed in the rainy season due to heavy mansoon rains and high tides coming to the shore.... (full story) (6 photos)

Rudranagar by Kaustav Ghoshal (kghoshal) (17) :: 2004-07-20 - 2004-07-31 :: 3331 Views

Rudranagar is a small village in the Birbhum district of West Bengal,which is in Eastern India.It is about 230 miles from Kolkata.My trip to Rudrananagar was great with a lot of great snapsAlthough it wears a rustic look,people are quite well off here.The well-off section of this village are people who own agricultural land and are close to the soil.The rest are farmers and fishermen.Poverty is everywhere and so is reflected in the pictures.

Although this village is well connected to the world,people here are camera shy and so they tend to hide away. (5 photos)
